Vitamin D3 belongs to the group of vitamin D, which are fat-soluble. This is a very important group of vitamins that plays a crucial role in:
- development and maintenance of bone tissue and teeth,
- development and maintenance of the muscular system,
- immunities.
The main source of vitamin D3 is endogenous production in the skin, where it is produced by ultraviolet radiation (UVB). To a lesser extent, it is obtained from food (fish oil, fish, eggs). Since vitamin D3 is practically not produced in the skin in our latitudes in the winter months, it is advisable to supplement it with supplementation. The recommended daily intake of vitamin D3 is not fixed, it is usually between 200 – 800IU per day. The upper limit of the daily long-term tolerable intake of vitamin D3 for adults is a dose of 2000IU to 4000IU.
